Layover Close settings

Settings

This app has no backend and no shared account: every search runs from your own browser straight to each provider, using a key you paste in below. Ryanair, Transitous and OSRM already work with no key at all, and the providers here unlock the rest.

Abandoned in September 2026. The search still runs, but nothing here is maintained and the built-in data stopped updating.

Flights, beds and timetables are fetched from the providers while you search, so those are as current as the provider is. Everything the app carries with it is frozen on the day beside it and drifts further out every week: a route that opened since then is invisible, one that closed is still offered, and a fare estimate is converted at last September's rates.

  • Exchange rates

converting a taxi or bus estimate into the currency you picked, from European Central Bank

  • Cheap fares

the cheap flights the search starts from before it asks a provider, from Ryanair

  • Direct routes

knowing which cities have no direct flight, which is what a layover trip is for, from Wikipedia

  • Ryanair network

which airports Ryanair is asked about without a key, from Ryanair

  • Map outlines

the coastlines and borders drawn behind every route, from Natural Earth

  • City centres

where a transfer to town is measured to, from GeoNames

  • Airport terminals

starting a ground transfer at the terminal door instead of the runway, from OpenStreetMap

  • Airports

every airport code, name and position the search can offer you, from OurAirports

The code is on GitHub, archived and read only.

API keys

Every key you paste in below is stored only in this browser's localStorage. It is sent only in requests to the provider that issued it, over HTTPS, straight from your device — never to any server this app runs, because it doesn't run one. Clearing your browser data or using another device or browser means starting over, or importing an exported file.

Export and import

Move your keys to another device, or restore a saved set, as a plain JSON file. Never sent anywhere, only written and read in this browser. Your chosen currency rides along in the same file, so a restored set searches the way it did before.

Nothing saved yet, so there is nothing to export.

flight

Skyscanner (Sky Scrapper)

15 left

The flight search the owner called non-negotiable — the aggregator most likely to have the cheapest fare.

0 of 15 requests spent this month against this app's own safety cap, held below the provider's real 20/month free tier so a miscount still leaves a reserve. Resets on the 1st. That is this browser's own count. Skyscanner (Sky Scrapper) has not reported the account's figure yet, so another device or a cleared browser starts this tally again at zero while the key's real allowance keeps going down.

flight

Flights Sky

40 left

A second flight aggregator, for the cross-price check that tests whether Skyscanner really is cheapest.

0 of 40 requests spent this month against this app's own safety cap, held below the provider's real 50/month free tier so a miscount still leaves a reserve. Resets on the 1st. That is this browser's own count. Flights Sky has not reported the account's figure yet, so another device or a cleared browser starts this tally again at zero while the key's real allowance keeps going down.

stay

Booking.com

40 left

Hotel prices near the stopover, from one of the two hotel searchers the owner named directly.

0 of 40 requests spent this month against this app's own safety cap, held below the provider's real 50/month free tier so a miscount still leaves a reserve. Resets on the 1st. That is this browser's own count. Booking.com has not reported the account's figure yet, so another device or a cleared browser starts this tally again at zero while the key's real allowance keeps going down.

stay

Agoda

400 left

The other hotel searcher the owner named. Its free tier (500/month) is generous enough to check every candidate stopover.

0 of 400 requests spent this month against this app's own safety cap, held below the provider's real 500/month free tier so a miscount still leaves a reserve. Resets on the 1st. That is this browser's own count. Agoda has not reported the account's figure yet, so another device or a cleared browser starts this tally again at zero while the key's real allowance keeps going down.

Currency

Every provider is asked to quote in this currency. Nothing here converts a price.

Asking is not getting. Agoda ranks its hotels before we can name a currency, and taxi figures come off a per-country rate card, so those two arrive in whatever they arrive in. Any provider can do the same. When one does, that part is left out of the total rather than converted at a rate this app made up, which is why a trip can come back with its flights priced and its bed missing.

Clock

How every time in the app is written. Each one is the clock at the airport it belongs to, whatever time it is where you are reading this.
